Yesterday was a lovely sunny and brisk day for the Easter Parade in Manhattan on Fifth Avenue. Thousands of locals and tourists milled about and marveled at the elegant, fanciful, opulent and sometimes ridiculous Easter outfits worn by participants.
The lindy hop crowd tends toward the more vintage-y and elegant end of the spectrum, with some comic touches like a stuffed bunny in the bonnet. This year I chose to wear my cream-colored pimp suit with tan fedora, accented by a gigantic corsage made by my friend Voon. That’s Voon and I dancing in the video above.
This year, we were fortunate to have the musical stylings of Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, all dapper in their black tuxedos, performing the biggest hits of the 20s and 30s. We charlestoned, peabodied, and balboaed in the very cramped dance space in front of the band, while the crowd of hundreds cheered and snapped pics.
Definitely one of the most fun Easter Parade’s I’ve ever been in. Such a wonderful day.
