While I was visiting the Tata Indicom sim in Second Life, I stopped by the virtual headquarters of CRY – Child Rights and You – just one sim over. CRY is "an inclusive, participatory, people's movement" that campaigns for "child rights for India's children" according to the automated text that greets you as you arrive. CRY works with "developmental organisations, communities, government and the media to work towards eliminating the root causes of deprivation, exclusion, exploitation and abuse, bringing about lasting change that is equitable and just for every Indian child." Certainly sounds quite worthwhile.
Their virtual offices have a fun, lego-like aesthetic, fitting their mission and target population well. In their space you can watch videos about their work, purchase branded virtual goods (and real goods from their website), and donate to their cause.
