I got a last minute opportunity (thanks, In Kenzo!) to check out the exhibition area of the Web2.0 Expo at the Javitz Center today. Very nerdy, very cool. I got to see this neat demo of the Microsoft Surface interface, which is really impressive up close.
I ran into several friends including my colleague Rhiannon Chatnoir, In Kenzo, her partner Brent, Tish of Ugotrade, and even Hamlet Au of New World Notes shilling his book. Small world, indeed.
On the exhibition floor, I saw some cool demos of different telepresence and distance meeting technologies, the most impressive of which was the LifeSize meeting room. I got a lot of ideas about what makes effective distance meetings from these demos, which I think have applicability to Second Life as a convening space. I’ll have to have a think about it and then write it here later.
I got way too many books at the O’Reilly booth, including Slide-ology, Fashioning Technology, and Subject to Change. Just more for the reading pile.
