Check out this wonderful Busby Berkeley dance scene from the movie “Gold Diggers” (1933) featuring Ginger Rogers. The song is “We’re in the Money,” of course. I love the awesomely weird Pig Latin bit toward the middle!
I’ve been brushing up on my Busby Berkeley knowledge because Yehoodi’s “Brooklyn Bombshells” dance group will be performing a Berkeley-esque number for the Mermaid Parade next week at Coney Island. If you have never been to the Mermaid Parade, you must make it a priority to be there on June 21!
For those that need a refresher on what a Busby Berkeley number looks like, here are some other awesome video clips:
- “Dames”. Note the “V” formation that is reprised in the “Big
Lebowski” clip also in this list - “Fashions of 1934.” Fast forward to about 2:30 for the beginning of the full choreography.
- Many will remember that “The Big Lebowski” has an awesome homage to Berkeley during the
musical dream sequence . Fast
forward to 1:20. - And another similar homage in the music video for the song “Shine” by the group Take That. There’s even some nice b-boying in there!
Really fun stuff. I’m so excited about the Brooklyn Bombshells routine!
