June 12 is Philippines Independence Day. On this day in 1898 the Declaration of Independence, prepared by Senior Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista, was signed by 98 people in the city of Cavite. At the time, the Philippines was a colony of the Spanish, who had just been defeated by the US in the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American war. The US however did not recognize Philippine independence until July 4, 1946.
In honor of the day, I am putting on my avatar and human bodies a "barong tagalog," the traditional Filipino dress shirt. The virtual version was designed by the lovely and talented Shai Delacroix.
Hurray for independence!
we are having a small flag waving event today. noting much planned since i am no longer inclined for the group to join sl5b. sighs.
mabuhay ang bansang pilipinas!
Ah sorry to hear that.
