My lil post today about “Mac’in on the R Train” made it onto the Gothamist blog (one of my favs). Thanks, Jen!
It set off a debate about whether or not its safe to use your laptop on the subway. Of the 24 comments, 16 thought it was a bad idea with only 4 indicating that they thought it was pretty safe. Several folks noted that it was just pretentious to pull out your computer and work on the train. A brief flamewar broke out over whether or not you could effectively “lo jack” your computer.
My favorite comment:
Being a lifelong New Yorker, and chinese, I have one thing to say to those of you who get your laptops stolen on the subway: Hwo Gai.
Which I believe roughly translates as “may misfortune befall you.”
My own take is that a laptop is:
- fragile,
- expensive,
- and large.
Which in my book is not a good combination for displaying it on a city subway.
Haha, that was my comment Rik. Glad you liked it!
