Well its Tax Day, which was virtually painless this year since I did all of my filing and payments online. This year all of my tax activities were done on the web using Turbo Tax online and the IRS’s online payment system. There’s many other aspects of e-government that have yet to be fully realized in this country, but at least the income tax system appears to function pretty well. Then again, nothing beats an honest-to-God professional tax preparer.
Entry Text:
I absolutely HATED the paper IRS forms, even the 1040 EZ, and fretted about the US postal system losing my tax forms. And now that I’m a consultant with various strange income sources, filing the traditional way would have been a nightmare. But Turbotax online does all of the heavy lifting and gives decent counsel on reducing your tax burden.
Then going to the IRS’s “Electronic Federal Tax Payment System” and clicking a few buttons quickly zips over funds from my bank account to the government’s coffers. No muss, no fuss.
Still, nothing beats having a real person you trust do your taxes for you. There’s the assurance of having a competent individual entrusted with your financial reporting, as well as the advice of having someone tell you what you can and can’t get away with.
Next year I want a human being, not software, to help me.
