I did some tech support for my mom this morning, which she was a trooper about, I have to say. It inspired this conversation that I expect to happen 20 years from now, if not sooner.
ME: Hi Aria, I can’t get this stupid virtual TV thing to show me Step Up 12. It’s broken.
ARIA: It’s not BROKEN, uncle. You need to enable your cerebral interface to re-encode 3d media to your 4d interface.
ME: I’m sorry… what?
ARIA: Yes, it’s broken, uncle.
ME: That’s what I thought! Can you fix it?
ARIA: Not remotely. I need you to give me access to your feed.
ME: Ok… how do I do that.
ARIA: You need to change your virtual environment to accept me as an admin.
ME: I think I understood that. What do I do first?
ARIA: Open your environment settings by pushing on the spinning gear that should be right behind you to the right.
ME: I’m not home right now. I’m sitting in the park. Should I go home?
ARIA: It’s a VIRTUAL gear. Just double-tap the button on your right temple to turn on the AR overlay.
ME: Oh I don’t like doing that, but okay…. Ugh, so many pop-ups. .. now what?
ARIA: Just ignore those — they go away after a second. Look behind you to the right. You should see a spinning gear.
ME: Got it! It’s very realistic.
ARIA: Just twiggle it, and it should open up a new set of menus.
ME: Twiggle?
ARIA: Ummm…imagine you are twisting and shaking something at the same time. You twiggle it.
ME: This is so stupid. I miss physical computers…
