Happy 2021! On the last day of the year, I did a little video exploring the connections I’ve found between rhythm skating and house dance.
As a dancer who has dabbled in many different forms, I’ve been interested in how to incorporate my other styles into skating. House dance, which I’ve been practicing for the past eight years, is very close to my heart, so that’s what I gravitated to first.
Here’s some of what I’ve found so far. Some moves are direct translations like dolphin dives, others are in the same spirit but executed quite differently, like crazy legs and the Charleston (which is from jazz, I know!).
No idea if anyone else will find this useful. But I enjoyed doing it. Sorry my house dancing is so rusty. It’s been almost a year of no sessions, clubs or classes!
NOTE: The terminology I use is what I learned from the folks in my community and online. Being vernacular dances, I’m sure these moves have lots of names depending on where you are from. No disrespect intended!
