Posted on November 19, 2009 by

My Global Kids colleague Joliz posts on the Huffington Post about how Global Kids changed her life ten years ago in high school.  It's a really neat story about how Global Kids works with inner city youth to expose them to new opportunities, cultures and ways of seeing the world and themselves. Posted on November 15, 2009 by

I made some tasty banana walnut pancakes for breakfast this morning. Several Facebook friends recommended that I make them from scratch. Haha, oh that's a good one!  Jill Murray even shared her recipe for these awesome sounding vegan peanut butter banana pancakes.  Maybe for another day. I took the lazy route and use the Fiber…

The tenuous link between breaking / b-boying and conflict resolution

Posted on November 11, 2009 by

For an upcoming workshop at Global Kids, I've been doing some investigation into the links between conflict resolution and breaking / b-boying.  The evidence that I've seen is very thin and unsubstantiated at this point, largely based on a few period dancer's recollections and assertions.  Here's some theories: B-boy Trac-2 in an NPR interview maintained…

Salim Cash doing killer Michael Jackson impersonation / homage (video)

Posted on November 11, 2009 by

Here's some footage of dancer Salim Cash doing a kickass Michael Jackson impersonation / homage at the Monster Mash dance on Halloween in New York City.  You can't see in this video, but Salim really owns and inhabits every single micro-movement of the dance, investing it with passion and emotion.  I had forgotten how much…
