Can’t Stop Serenity: Feminists and Scifi Geeks reunite in June!

Apparently last year’s benefit showing of the scifi flick "Serenity" was such a huge success that they are doing it again this June. This summer, in movie theaters around the country, there will be special showings of "Serenity" with all the proceeds going to the women’s empowerment group "Equality Now." Apparently "Serenity" director/writer Joss Whedon is a huge supporter of Equality Now.  Last year they raised $65,000!

I missed this fundraiser last year, so I’m determined to be there this year!  And it’s been a few months since I last saw the movie, so I’m due for a refresher.

Looking at the list of venues, it occurs to me that we should organize a showing in Second Life. Paging all SL Browncoats…

Haven’t talked to the owners about it yet, but Washtown would be an obvious location if they’re up for it. I’ll ask…

Last I checked, Washtown was a ghosttown. Is there even a space there that we could use?

Check back. Washtown was in limbo for a bit while we decided whether to buy an sialnd or expand where we were, but once we made the choice (expand) it exploded. Lots of buildings, a spaceport, etc. And we can find room for a screen. I think Dieter’s already been in touch with you…?

Speaking of Serenity…a while ago I visited a build of the Firefly ship in SL that you could actually enter. It had all the hallways and rooms and cockpit, etc. But, it seems I neglected to save the landmark! Does anyone know where this ship is?
    Thanks! Zorn

The one in Washtown is it! Thanks Rik! I checked out the other one to, and it’s also amazing.
Since I doubt there will be a showing of Serenity in Nebraska, I would love to attend one in SL.

Thanks Zorn. I’ve got some people looking at the rights issues. Hopefully we can sort them and put this on.
