For those that don't know, Saturday, June 21, is the 26th annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade, the nation's largest art parade and the my absolutely favorite part of summer in New York City. As has been tradition for the past years, the lindy hoppers participate as the "Brooklyn Bombshell Revue" under the leadership of Miss Behave and Lilieblue of Yehoodi. Typically, 20-30 swing dancers dress in various vintage, nautical and mermaid attire as they dance and pimpwalk down the parade route.
This looks like a particularly special year for the parade, with Brooklyn-local Harvey Keitel and his wife Daphne as the King and Queen of the Parade, and a float featuring Brooklyn boys They Might Be Giants! Now all it has to do is not rain, which is sadly in the forecast at some point tomorrow.
