Tomorrow night I'm off to Europe to help some dear friends of mine have a child. To be exact, if all goes as planned, I am going to be the biological father of their child. It's one of the most important things I've ever done in my life.
I've been friends with the couple for years and have every confidence they will be outstanding parents. They actually already have a daughter, who is surrounded by loving parents, doting grandparents, and many other friends and family involved in the child's life. She is one of the happiest babies I've ever seen.
When I arrive, I am going to sign papers that basically affirm that I will have no legal responsibilities, obligations or rights when it comes to the child. That said, the parents intention is to tell the child who his or her father is when they think that the child is ready to know. I have absolutely no problem with that and think it's in the best interest of the child.
I'm just so honored to have been asked, and excited about helping bring new life into the world.

That’s super cool, Rik. I hope it all goes well!
I was going to make a wisecrack about thia not being very different from other deadbeat dads except the baby will still be loved and well cared for by two parents..
I kind of want a tee-shirt that says “Deadbeat Dad” now!
That is soooo beautiful! Wish every one the best. May the bestest DNA of Rik land in that egg! giggles
That’s BEAUTIFUL Rik. Kudos to you, you’re doing such a good thing. 🙂
