Quick tour of my new Prospect Heights apartment (video)

Posted on September 29, 2009 by

Here's a quick walk-through of my new apartment in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.

Check out all the room I have! The kitchen / dining room area is really big, as is the main bedroom up front.  The two middle rooms, which I'm going to be using as a living room and office space, are much smaller and don't get much light.  You can see a glimpse of the backyard area, which is really cute.  And there are two entrances to the apartment, which is kind of odd but might be useful.

The previous tenant left a big mess, which doesn't make me happy. But
the landlord promises that he'll clean it up by today and spackle up
the holes in the wall.

Tomorrow is the big move-in day! Woo hoo!

Congratulations! I may no longer be in NYC, but I still understand the enormity of such things. I catch myself mentally calculating rent on NYC apartments on TV, even when it’s the scene of a bloody murder. “The dead guy was a social worker, in a place that pricey? No way!”

    Hey Rik, George here.
I really like the windows by the radiator. They sorta look floor to ceiling (although it really starts from the radiator). It’s akin to Dutch apartments (or at least Amsterdam apartments) where they really like tall windows.
As for your two entrances, maybe one can be used as you wanting to go directly into your bedroom and rest, the other if you just want to go to your office? It could be used as more a mental thing. But I’m sure you thought of something that makes sense.

Yeah, the room setup is going to take some time. Right now it looks like the front room, which is the biggest, will be the bedroom area, with a desk for doing work and still seeing outside.
The 2nd bedroom / study is probably just going to be storage for the near future.
The living room is much tinier than I remembered, so it’s really going just house the futon couch and a coffee table and that’s it.
the dining room / kitchen area is probably going to be the most accessible public spot of the apartment. So probably want to kip this out the most for guests.
Thanks for the support and feedback!
