Hand Dancing to Electro-swing Hit “We No Speak Americano”

Posted on October 7, 2010 by

This music video is sick on so many levels:

  • Hot electro-swing hit called "We No Speak Americano" by Yolanda BCool and DCUP
  • Ridiculous "hand dancing" by Suzanne Cleary & Peter Harding, aka "Up and Over It"
  • Awesome production values on the video by Jonny Reed

Em tells me that Suzanne Cleary and Peter Harding are actually Irish step dancers, which actually makes sense when you look at their percussive hand movements.  I love the passivity on their faces while they are doing these crazy moves.  They must be tapping on some kind jury-rigged tapboard to get that sharp sound.   I REALLY hope the tapping sound wasn't adding in post.

Em guessed that they came up with their unique style when they were discussing different steps, using their hands to illustrate the various combos and hits, and thus the "hand dancing" was born.  However it came about, it's totally ill.

I’ve seen another video of Cleary and Harding on stage doing a routine at a table that includes hand dancing. (I’m at work or I’d go hunting down a link!)

Em’s right, these guys are big in the Irish dance world! I twigged to their origins the first time I watched this clip – the move they do from 1:34 – 1:36 was the huge giveaway. (I wish I knew the name for it!) And of course Google then confirmed it. 🙂
