Tonight I realized I am within biking distance of the best ice cream sandwich I've had in the Bay Area, C.R.E.A.M. in Berkeley. I think that spells trouble.
What C.R.E.A.M. ("Cookies Rule Everything Around Me") does right it gives you choices, lots of choices, for cheap. You have a dozen or so ice cream flavors and a list of 10 fresh-baked, gooey cookies to choose from. And you can choose to have a different cookie for the top and the bottom, which you would be a fool not to do. A fool!
So far I've had chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies with cinnamon caramel ice cream in the middle and oatmeal raisin and peanut butter cookies with pumpkin ice cream in the middle. Both of them were amazing. The sandwiches are perfectly sized — not too big to give you a stomach ache, but not so small that you wish you had two. The ice cream to cookie ratio is almost right too… although I think a few ounces more wouldn't hurt.
But for two dollars, it's hard to complain.
C.R.E.A.M. is in Berkeley at Telegraph and Channing. Open late fortunately / unfortunately.
