UN Spam: Just Another Phishing Scheme

I am pretty sure at this point that these fake UN emails advertising cushy job postings and free travel to UN conferences are just elaborate phishing schemes hidden in UN-ese double-speak. This suspicion was confirmed when "Ernest" commented in a previous post here about his experience in replying to the "Youth conference" email:

i have just received the same letter from mrs margret brown , inviting me to atttend the forth youth conference
coming up both in South Africa and netherland respectively.

i apply to the head office, they said,they will provide air ticket
and visa, but i should book my hotel reservation at south Africa. With
the sum of $250 and i should come with Four people from my country. my
doubt is that i dont know how this may be true.please i will like to
obtain more info, and advise from u people in regards to this offer.

Ernest, don’t book that reservation! They will just steal your credit card information and/or identity and use it for all sorts of nefarious purposes.

If anyone else hears back from these phishers, I’d love to know what kind of malarkey they are spewing.
