Tonight I managed to catch most of a special Future Salon discussion and machinima movie viewing in Second Life featuring Paul Marino, head of the Academy of Machinima Arts & Sciences, founder of Ill Clan Productions and most importantly my roommate.
In typical SL mind-bending fashion, I was sitting in the living room of our apartment while Paul sat a few feet away from me with his headset on and tapping away on his laptop. Meanwhile, both of our avatars (Rik Riel and Hiro Quasimodo respectively) were in Second Life at the Future Salon discussion.
That’s Paul/Hiro in the black jacket in the middle here.
Paul would speak into his headset and 4 seconds later I would hear him in-world, chatting with others on the panel. It was all quite strange and amusing.
Very cool. Lag like that is very surreal. Faster nets and processeing power will help, but we really need to lick that speed of light problem…
