Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the virtual world Second Life, which is celebrating in high style with a host of events over the next few days from live DJed dances to parades to keynote addresses by Philip and Robin Linden (the CEO and VP of Linden Labs, respectively.)
Today my pal Illbixby of Ill Clan productions will be appearing at a machinima show at 4pm EST. Hopefully there will be a performance of the unofficial "Second Life Theme Song!"
I’m still a newb and sticking my toe into various projects and communities. I am continually blown away by the amount of talent, creativity, and sweat that SL residents have put into building their own dream worlds, and finding new ways to have fun. It’s somewhere between Tim Berner-Lee’s vision of the interactive web, "My Space with depth perception" and Neal Stephenson’s "meta-verse." My only regret is that I didn’t find this place sooner.
UPDATE: Here’s a couple of pics from the Machimina event today. That’s Illbixby in the horrible teal shirt and the lovely Elfay Pinkdot.
