My friends at Citizens for Global Solutions have created a number of innovative campaigns and contests on various global issues. Their last effort to come across my in-box was a "Better than Bolton" home video campaign, urging people to send in short videos saying why they oppose the re-nomination of UN-basher John Bolton to the post of US Ambassador to the United Nations.
Now I hear that CGS is throwing a "virtual poetry slam" to get people rhyming on the theme of the environment and climate change. Folks are encouraged to send in short videos of themselves performing their own ecologically-themed poem by October 15. The reward, besides the chance to showcase your work on their site, is some cold hard cash. $500 for first place, $250 for second, and $100 for third.
I may have to dust off my poetry slam chops and rummage through the archives. Back-in-the-day I used to hold my own at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, but that was a decade ago. Ah, memories…
Thanks Rik – Makes me think of sugar coated hub caps that are no longer made 🙂
Ha, interesting, as I also was organizing some poetry slams in Aachen back then when it was sorta new (at least in Germany. We had somebody coming back from the states with that idea and we even had some flaky realaudio conference with somebody in New York IIRC).
Yeah, memories… 🙂
