Ben Popken at Gothamist did some additional sleuthing on my e-commerce woes with the Gift Assistant . Ben even managed to track down the cell phones of the proprietors of the business, who he said would refund me the $130 if I called.

I have got a $280 gift card from a family member to choose my gift cards on thegiftassistant.com in April 2006 and never got any gift card I chose. Its been just about 1 year any nothing.
I have a gift assistant card that I received from a family member which is supposed to be worth $1000 dollars but am unable to use it b/c the site is no longer online and the 1-877 # is disconnected how is it these ppl can get away with such fraud?

Im so mad b/c I too have a $1000 gift card and cannot use it … THESE people are committing fraud!!!!!!!!!!
they should have to refund money to all people who have their gift cards and cannot redeem them. I am really disappointed b/c I planned to use mine to pay for a hotel stay.. guess I will just have to cancel my plans now 🙁
