Trying to be a good citizen for once and file my taxes well ahead of April 15. TurboTax has done a decent job in the past, but tonight it’s pissing me off.
Somehow the program has gotten into its head that I need to make estimated tax payments in 2007, which is totally wrong. My employer deducts my taxes each pay period. But I can’t seem to figure out how to tell TurboTax this important bit of information.
Last year I paid a real human being to prepare my taxes. Sadly, he passed away, leaving me to the uncaring whims of heartless software. Sigh.
I haveused TT for many years , always pleased with results, finish and mail return
about Feb 1 each year. This year 2006 return
was not unusual and caused minor gliches.
Then comes the notice that the State TT (CA)
was being corrected by TT and the update would be received by end of March.
No instructions concerning what IRS would do;
hold return,audit return w/State,etc. error.
I had no way to tell the IRS HOW TO HANDLE THIS.
Now,March 28, I received the Replacement CD.
No instructions on how to handle a filed
return, I did insert the CD aand started to
follow your instructions.
Then, I stopped the process because the entire Return at IRS would have been audited and I would have my refund now.
So I aborted the new installation and am
trusting the IRS to handle the problem.
A few of my friends have similar problems.
I would have appreciated a notice when you
found the error in the Program and a lot of
us could have delayed our filing date, even if we were entitled to a refund.
Some few people at TT did not consider the
results of the unfortunate error and did
nothing to solve the big mess we now abhore.
I would love to be your Ombudsman to do no
more than notify the populace of errors made
which affect the lives of all of us and IRS
