I got a chance to play with the Gideon May’s wiimote controller hack for Second Life at the Metaverse Meetup last night in the East Village. I must admit, I squealled like a 12-year old girl while I was playing with it.
According to 3PointD, over the last couple of days, Gideon hacked together a way to use the wiimote controller to move around your avatar in Second Life. His company I-D Media of Berlin announced at the Meetup that they plan on releasing most of this code to the community shortly. Hurray for open source and business playing nicely together!
I love the idea of having a more intuitive, tactile controller to move around your avatar and manipulate the environment. Now if you can combine the wii nunchuk controller with the Samurai Island combat interface, then we’re talking some Snow Crash-like goodness!

Honestly… as much as I love my Wii and I think the controller has potential, I can do the same thing as this demo with my Gyration mouse.
Now, control a sword-fighting program in SL with a Wii controller – I will swoon.
