Just got in super-late, tired but satisfied after a night of dancing.
Every Thursday night, for the past five years, my team at Yehoodi has thrown a weekly swing dance party in Manhattan that has become a central gathering point for swing dancers in the city, and a must-visit spot for visiting dancers from around the world. We call it the "Frim Fram Jam," named for a a classic swing song by Cab Calloway.
Coming to Frim Fram is like coming home, a place to meet your friends and dance to the music we all love. Over the years we’ve figured out the magic combination: a cheap cover ($8), a rotating stable of great swing DJs, a smooth wooden floor, cheap drinks, and centrally located. Every year we expect Frim Fram to lose its appeal, to get trumped by another popular dance spot in the city. And every year our numbers keep growing. We had about 200 people at our dance tonight, and we’re maxing out the space we’re currently renting.
So if you are in New York and you want to check out a diverse and welcoming community of folks who just love to dance, come on by. We’re at 412 Eighth Avenue near Penn Station, nearly every Thursday. Dance lesson at 8pm, dancing from 9pm to 1am. Bring your dancing shoes.
