For all you job hunters out there, I got the news that the group TMP Worldwide is organizing a virtual job fair called "Network in World" from May 15-17. Big deal, you think. Just the other day I was interviewing for a job as a bouncer at club DyNASTY and the day before as a model for Furry World Today. Ah, but the difference at Network in World is that these are virtual interviews for real world jobs. And not some mom-n-pop operations — we’re talking Microsoft, T-mobile, Verizon, Sodexho, Hewlett-Packard and eBay!
Apparently this is not your typical "walk around a big hall and press the flesh"-type job fair. You have to pre-register, submit your qualifications, and then wait and hope that one of the recruiters contacts you to set up an in-world interview. Sounds like a big opportunity for someone interested in one of these corporations. If that is you, the most important question you need to ask yourself is, what do I wear to a virtual job interview?
The obvious strategy would be go for the most comformist corporate look. I.e. the dark blue suit. Boring!
This is the virtual "defy all challenges" world, right? You want to seem with-it, high-tech and hip — well not too hip.
Maybe they want someone who can sport the corporate identity, but bring a fresh face to it?
Whatever you do, don’t wear this.
