Catalonian virtual cooking? WTF?

Posted on June 4, 2007 by

Spanishcuisine

Ok, I love Catalan cuisine and I love virtual worlds.  But I can’t for the life of me figure out why I would go to a virtual world to learn how to cook a Catalonian dish.

I received a press release telling me that Manuel Diez, head chef of L’Arrel del Born in Barcelona, will explain how he prepares one of his signature dishes, skrei cod over black cuttlefish rice. The demonstration will apparently be done using a voice narrative by the chef and a slideshow. (Not even video?) Check it out on Monday June 11 at 12pm PST  in Spanish and
again on Tuesday 12PM in English in the sim Plaça
Real.  The full press release follows the dots…

Spanish high cuisine
enters into Secondlife

The chef of “L’Arrel del Born” chooses the virtual world to reveal the secrets behind his favourite recipes

In the Plaça Real SIM – The Second Life replica of the famous Plaça Real of Barcelona- Manuel Diez, chef of L’Arrel del Born, will reveal the secrets behind the preparation of one of his favourite dishes at The Cafe. The presentation will be performed by Manuel’s “alter ego” Chef Uriza. The show will consist of the chef’s narrative with a slide show. The featured recipe will be Skrei Cod over black Cuttlefish rice. The show will be next Monday June 11th at 12pm slt in Spanish and Tuesday 12th at 12pm slt in English

The step-by-step lesson will be released exclusively in the virtual world, but the final result will be able to be tasted in L’Arrel del Born, the real restaurant located in “El Born”, a fashionable neighbourhood of Barcelona.

TimeOnScreen, a Catalan firm (Alternativa de Medios group) that experiments with new ways of communication, publicity and marketing through virtual worlds, is responsible for the initiative.
