Men’s Second Style, an excellent SL fashion blog, turned me on to these beautiful "barong tagalog" shirts created by designer Shai Delacroix. I finally got my hands on one tonight and I’m a very happy Fil-Am (Filipino-American) now that my avatar is sporting such a handsome dress shirt. The barong tagalog is the traditional men’s dress shirt of the Philippines, combining Spanish formal dress and tropical practicality, a very light shirt woven with piña fibers derived from pineapple leaves.
Shai did a lovely job re-creating the look in Second Life, offering an "antique," "ebony" and "ivory" colors, as well as dress pants and an appropriate undershirt to go with it. Traditionally they are ivory in color, but now you see all sorts of garish combinations and artificial fibers used in modern barongs.
Shai also does wonderful dresses in the style of the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines that would look dazzing at a cotillion or formal ball. Head to Casa del Shai if you would like to check our her fashions (teleport SLURL.) Only L$500 for a complete barong outfit!
