I got the news from Laura Judy that the marijuana legalization non-profit NORML has opened a small office in Second Life (teleport SLURL). You already see a good amount of simulated marijuana use in SL, so it makes sense for NORML to start reaching out to residents here.
For those that don’t know, NORML’s mission is "to move public opinion sufficiently to achieve the repeal of marijuana prohibition so that the responsible use of cannabis by adults is no longer subject to penalty." I have no idea what their in-world plans are, but Laura tells me they are open to suggestions. They have a resident group you can join, if you want to get involved. Just search for "NORML" under groups.
Not much in their HQ yet, just a free tee-shirt, a few posters with links to their website and some comfy chairs. There’s not even any blunts or bongs you can buy. But trust me, you don’t have to go far to find those accessories for your avatar.
