The Rainbow PUSH Coalition and the Office of Communications of the United Church of Christ are co-sponsoring a "Violent Media Fast" from October 14-20, encouraging people, particularly parents and their kids, to refrain from violent TV, movies and video games for a week:
Our children will see 100,000 acts of violence on television in the next 10 years. Recently, the FCC released a report stating that exposure to violent
media on television directly correlates to aggressive behavior in
children. In response to these findings, and in conjunction with the YWCA’s "Week without Violence," the UCC’s OC, Inc. and the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition are sponsoring a Violent Media Fast Oct. 17-20, 2007.
This is the first time I have seen one of these anti-violence campaigns target digital games. I don’t envy the parent trying to wrest away the controllers from a kid who have gotten a hold of "Halo 3."
