I just booked my tickets for the "Swing and Soul" dance weekend from December 7-9 in Atlanta Georgia. I love the event description:
This will be a weekend dedicated to that energy that we call Soul.
You’ll find it in the music we play, lots of classic 60’s soul from
hitmakers like Motown and Stax, real old-school R&B, down &
dirty Blues, slammin Disco and Funk, and more. You’ll also find soul in
the dancing we do, whether it be Lindy Hop, Hand Dancing, West Coast
Swing, or Shag or Steppin or Hustle. It doesn’t matter, because for
this weekend, it’s not where you’re from it’s where you’re at and we
are gonna check those labels at the door and mix it up all weekend
long. So if you have a love of music and dancing that is full of soul
then you belong at the Swing & Soul Party.
There will be loads of dance parties, "soul session" dance classes, and even a special popping workshop taught by Chibi Robot (aka Bryan Gaynor). You might remember Chibi as the guy with skoliosis who brought the house down doing a popping routine for his tryouts for the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance."
The weekend is being organized by my buddy Spuds, along with badass dancers Steven Mitchell, Tena Morales, and Peter Strom. So you know it’s going to be a party!
