Yes, the stories are true. I got laid off.
Me, along with apparently 21 other employees of the Electric Sheep Company, were informed on Monday that their positions were terminated. I am not at liberty to discuss the details behind the decision (so please don’t ask). There are lots of other blogs where folks are trading rumors, official comments and conjecture. But suffice to say that it had nothing to do with me personally. I simply was the “last hired, first fired.”
I have no regrets, despite only having worked there for a little over a month. I was very aware going in that this was a high-risk, unstable industry. But I couldn’t pass up the chance to work with the Sheep, the Ill Clan and my buddy Frankyboy.
This puts a bit of damper on Christmas, I have to say. But all of the phone calls, emails, tweets and kind words I’ve received from friends in the past couple of days remind me of what’s really important.
At this moment I’m confident that as this door unexpectedly closes, another will open in due course. Thanks so much, everyone, for your good wishes.

Damn, bud – I’m sorry to hear. You seemed like such a natural fit there, its hard to understand.
Still, as you said, your talents won’t go unused for very long I’m sure.
Hope to hang when I’m back in NYC.
Sorry to hear that.
You know, it would be kinda neat to script up a series of doors in a room and have one open when another is closed.
Ouch……I was hoping you were not one of the ones. It is never an easy time, but right before the holidays is even worse.
But, knowing you, you’ll bounce back with an even greater opportunity. I’ll be crossing fingers and thinking positive thoughts for you.
Thanks, folks. A hear the creak of another virtual door opening as I write this….
Aw, man! Very sorry to hear that … but yes, somewhere, somehow, good things are brewing for you, no doubt!
As one door closes another opens. Clichés stick for a reason. All the best to you post-ESC and in the new year, Rik.
Second Life News for December 20, 2007
From: CodeBastard Redgrave Petition: We need moar than 25 groups in SecondLife! Quote from the site – I wont go in details on how annoying the 25 groups limitation in Secondlife is (yes, you can thank me, I won’t!). Most of you hate it. But groups is…
Indeed, sorry to hear this, esp. around xmas I guess it’s not the best time.
