I had the pleasure of hearing Congressman Edward Markey (D-Mass.) speak at the National Conference on Media Reform in January in Memphis. He clearly demonstrated then an acute understanding of the importance of communications and technology as potential forces for good in society. So it is no surprise that he will be appearing in Second Life tonight to deliver a speech to the UN Climate Summit taking place in Bali from December 3-14.
Congressman Markey is well-placed to speak on the issue of climate change as the Chairman of the Select
Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. And by appearing via Second Life, he will be avoiding
the carbon cost (and monetary cost) of flying to deliver his speech via "Virtual Bali," the Second Life parallel space to the UN summit.
Head to the OneClimate islands (click here to teleport) today at 8 PM EST, 5PM PST/SL to catch Rep. Markey give this important address. Or you can watch it on the Web. (The grid is currently down, so the web might be your best bet, actually.)
