MC Hammer heads up new dance-oriented video service

A friend sent along the news that MC Hammer is heading up a new dance-oriented website called DanceJam.com:

Mchammer
Drawing upon the popularity of reality shows like "Dancing With The
Stars," DanceJam will stage head-to-head competitions where contestants
submit videos that will be judged by viewers. The site also will
provide demonstrations and information about a wide variety of dances,
ranging from the Boogaloo to the Krump. [Website partners] Arone, Hammer and Young
have spent several months videotaping people around the country
dancing. They say they have stockpiled about 100 gigabytes of video to
help launch DanceJam.

The site looks to be "urban dance" (i.e. black) oriented. The video snippets show a "wide range" of dancing from krumping to ass shakin to crip-walking.  Whether the site will also feature clogging, ballroom tango or the Filipino tinikling is still unclear.

I don’t wanna be hatin’ before the site even launches, but I have my doubts. Does the internet need ANOTHER video site? And what’s up with the cheesy diamond background?  Still, I am always on the lookout for b-boy and popping videos.

We danced a lot in elementary school.  Square dances, Mexican hat dances, ballroom dancing, even a bit of the Hustle.  It was fun, we got to get closer to the girls, and it wasn’t math, so it was all okay with me.   I’m not suprised to see the kids at these schools are enthusiastic about dance…but I guess I am suprised to see that dance in elementary school is newsworthy these days.  I hope it’s not that rare.
