Heidi Boisvert, the lead designer of the "ICED" computer game, sends us news that "ICED" has been officially released for download, after more than two years of work.
"ICED" — which stands for "I Can End Deportation" — allows the player to step into the shoes of five immigrant teens and find out what it takes to avoid deportation in the United States. Through playing the 3D first-person / third-person game, the player faces various moral choices, like whether or not to buy bootleg CDs or apply for a job with a fake ID.
It’s a very clever game that uses the gameplay to teach you about the challenges and choices that immigrants face in this country. And like real life, once you are in detention, it’s nearly impossible to beat the game.
"ICED" was sponsored by the human rights group Breakthrough, and developed by the company Garage Games. You can download Mac or PC version for free at www.icedgame.com .
