Those that know me know that my all time favorite New York event of the entire year is the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, which I have been participating in for many years as part of the Brooklyn Bombshell’s group. The Mermaid Parade is run by the non-profit group Coney Island USA, which does a bang up job organizing what must be an incredibly complicated and free-form festival of freaks every year.
Tomorrow, May 21, from 7-10PM, there will be a Spring Gala Fundraiser party for Coney Island USA, taking place at the Angel Oresanz Foundation at 172 Norfolk Street in the Lower Eastside of Manhattan. The Brooklyn Bombshells will be in attendance to entertain, teach swing dance lessons and general liven up the party. I’ll be there, probably in one of my ridiculous zoot suits. If that’s not enticement enough, Lady Luck and the Suicide Kings will be performing, plus: carnival games of chance, the cast of the 2008 Coney Island Circus Sideshow, Miss Coney Island Serpentina, The Pontani Sisters, The Peach Tartes, Dirty Martini,
Hula Harvest, World Famous *BOB*, the inimitable Reverend Billy, a mini Mermaid Parade, and much more!
It’s going to be an awesome party for a great cause. Head to the Coney Island USA website for all the info and to purchase tickets.
