Just had a wonderful time as a guest on the very popular virtual world talk show "Metanomics" hosted by the able Mr. Beyers Sellers. I’ve always been a big fan of the show, which sets a high bar for professionalism in this new media space. I was invited on along with Doug Thomas of the USC Network Culture Project to talk about this "Public Good in SL Community Challenge" that they launched a couple of months ago and that just announced the five finalists of the challenge.
If I recall correctly, not only did the show manage to seamlessly integrate an in-world broadcast of the show into several other sims, it also was webcast live to the Metanomics site. In addition, everyone chatting in all sims and on the web were able to see each other’s chat during the show, adding a richer layer of interactivity and energy to the proceedings. Beyers was a skillful master of ceremonies, bringing in correspondents to give their reports, cueing videos, and taking questions from the audience. A tough task in the real world, with the added challenge of working in a laggy, borky medium.
Kudos to Beyers Sellers, the Metanomics team, SLCN and the rest for a job well done.
