I’m excited as all-get-out that this Saturday, June 21, is the 25th annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade! For those that don’t know, the Mermaid Parade is a raucous and community-driven celebration of Summer, where tens of thousands flock to see an eclectic and wild mix of floats, bands, dancers, hula hoopers, vintage cars, and other random marchers — all in some kind of nautical, mermaid or beach-oriented attire. You’ll see everything from glamorous drag queens in full mermaid-y glory to 3-year olds dressed like guppies.
Last year, my group the Brooklyn Bombshell Revue took FIRST PLACE for our well-choreographed and fun routine. So this year, we are lined up at the front of the parade, which kicks off at 2PM this Saturday. Head to the official website for details on the parade, plan on getting to Coney Island early for a good viewing spot, and wear lots of sunscreen.
It’s going to be a great day!
