I’ve posted before how much I dig Virgin America. I think it’s worth at least an extra $50-100 to fly Virgin over another crappy airline. (I’m looking at you, Southwest and Delta.)
One of the sweetest things about Virgin is their "Red" entertainment system. They have various flavors of video content from broadcast TV via satellite, pre-loaded TV episodes, movies, and even cool video Podcasts like Diggnation. The music player let’s you load up individual songs and albums into your playlist, or just listen to different radio stations by genre. The system also has video games, in-cabin chat and hopefully soon Internet access!
One of my favorite features is the onscreen food ordering system, enabling the passenger to order a diet coke or a roast beef sandwich whenever they want it. No more waiting for that slow ass beverage cart.
I just discovered a nice UI feature in Red. What you see in the picture above is me ordering a cup of joe while the TED video I am watching plays in a small screen. So you don’t have to interrupt whatever you are watching just to get a snack. So smart!
(FYI I posted this from the neat Typepad app for the iPhone.)
