So I hear tale that "Astroland," the beloved and somewhat seedy amusement park in Coney Island, is going bye-bye very soon. This bums me out to no end, even if I have never been one of those who were big into the thrill rides or carnie games. "Astroland" is just part of what makes Coney Island such a great and funky place.
My friends tell me that the Mermaid Parade is still going to happen on the boardwalk next summer like every year, since that is organized by the seperate Coney Island USA non-profit. Still its just another nail in the coffin that the real estate developers would like to use to bury all that makes Coney Island such a great part of New York City.
I’m glad I got to see Astroland for one last time a couple of weekends ago when I biked over to Coney Island.
