Sponsor Rafi & “make plastic bags history” in NYC

Posted on October 17, 2008 by

Plastic Bag Tree

My buddy Rafi has been working over the past few months with an effort to get rid of plastic bags in New York City, called the "Back to the Sack" initiative.  Rafi is asking for support for the environmental initiative as he participates in the  "One City Walk" walkathon on November 8:

Some of you know that I’ve
been working in my spare time on a grassroots campaign here in NYC to
make plastic bags history in this fine city.  The initiative, called
"Back to the Sack", has had incredible success in putting a coalition
together, including numerous state senators, city council members and
thousands of regular people that are passionate about the environment.
My main work has been in coordinating our legislative strategy.

The organization I’m working on this initiative through, The Interdependence Project,
is doing this organizing in the context of answering a question: What
does collective action look like when done from a place of compassion
and mindfulness?  It’s been an incredible process for me to bring my
passions of civic engagement and mindfulness meditation together as
I’ve worked on this project.

I’m humbly writing to you now to ask for support so we can really
make this project take off.  On November 8th I’ll be participating in
the One City Walk,
going from Central Park in Manhattan to Prospect Park in Brooklyn,
about 10 or so miles, and am looking to raise at least $200 for the
cause.  Anything you can give, $5, $10, $20, $50 etc would be most
welcome, and would help enormously.  If you can’t give but are
passionate about the cause, you can join me in the walk!

You can donate by clicking here, and just put "Rafi Santo" in the "Company" field to let them know you’re contributing.

My name is Anne I am trying to ban the plastic bags. I live in the east bay California. How did you get started? What are some of the things you have accomplished?
I want to start with Walmart, Target etc. and with the people. Any information you have would be great.
