My buddies Frankyboy, Swifty and I joined the crowd of comic geeks at the lovely Rocket Ship comic shop in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn tonight for the Bryan Lee O'Malley book signing. The occasion was the much-anticipated release of the fifth book in O'Malley's celebrated "Scott Pilgrim" series: "Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe." The New Yorkers who braved the cold to come to the signing were treated to a limited edition foil cover of the graphic novel, a cool poster, and a fun tee shirt! Plus there was free beer.
Frankyboy groused about the long lines and the crowd. Meanwhile, we think Swifty got the last copy of volume five in the store! We had a fun time checking out all the other great comics, graphic novels and artwork on display at Rocket Ship. O'Malley had several really sweet framed drawings for sale from $250 to $750. If only I had the kind of cash lying around.
I was very happy with my purchase of volume five plus a tee shirt, which is really cool, albeit kind of confusing. What does "I <Scott Pilgrim> New York" mean, anyway?
Bryan will also be appearing at New York Comic Con this weekend at Jacob Javitz Center.
