On Monday I am helping lead a workshop on "Global Arts for Social Change" with fifty-some Global Kids youth at a retreat in upstate New York. (See the full video I prepared for this here.) We've got a great bunch of kids, so I'm expecting some awesome dancing,
street art, spoken word, drumming and other radical artistic expression on a range of issues.
The section I've been assigned is the spoken word / poetry section. I would like to present some good examples of poetry about political and social change
to share with our youth on Monday evening. Can you suggest
anything that is accessible, not too long, with appropriate language, particularly if read aloud? International work is much preferred.
Thanks for any help!
I’ll have my MFA Poet friend get in touch with you..
Here’s one of my fav pieces:

Wow that is really dope. thanks, DK!
Thanks everyone for your input. My workshop went really really well. Our kids were very inspired by the work that I brought and wrote and shared some beautiful work of their own.
Hopefully I will have video of their pieces to share soon!
