What you see here is a closeup of the virtual insulin pump worn by my dragon avatar in Second Life, courtesy of Noelyci Ingmann. Hamlet Au just blogged about the pump — which comes in a "regular" and a "LOLcats" version believe it or not — so I had to check it out.
The free insulin pump was created by Noelyci as a way of educating people about Type I diabetes. Every 90 minutes the device reminds the wearer to test his blood sugar, and if its running low of high what to do about it. (The one I'm wearing issues the warnings in LOLcat-speak.) It also includes a link to the website of the awesome Junior Diabetes Research Foundation.
As I rezzed over to the Ingmann sim (click here to teleport), I ran into Noelyci himself. His company specializes in scripting and building, and 25% of his proceeds goes to the JDRF. It looks like he does really nice work, so think about him for your next Second Life project.
And as someone who has been through his own diabetes scare, I think education and awareness of the risks of diabetes is always a good thing.
It’s so lucky for me to find your blog! So shocking and great! Just one suggestion: It will be better and easier to follow if your blog can offer rrs subscription service.
