Swifty and I stopped by a new comic book shop in the 'hood — Bergen Street Comics on Bergen Street near Flatbush Avenue. We're pretty excited about having a comic shop within walking distance of our apartment. But beyond the convenience, it's seems like a cool local business run by a couple that clearly just loves comics.
The store has a boutique-y feel with polished dark wood, lots of space to browse the shelves, and a few latest issues on a big table in the middle of the floor. The proprietors are super-friendly and have clearly put a lot of thought into how to organize their somewhat limited stock (as of now.) I like seeing graphic novels by genre, not publisher, which is almost meaningless to me. And there are almost no toys, tee-shirts or DVDs to distract you from the pure comic goodness. Reminds me of Rocket Ship in Cobble Hill, but more spacious.
You can follow their adventures in running a comic shop on their Twitter feed.
