Well, here it is, the trailer for "B-Girl" the movie. Starring Lady Jules of Beat Freaks, with a cast of b-boys and b-girls, it promises to at least deliver on the dancing front. The question is whether the plot will enhance or detract from the movie. With that in mind, I have to say, the lines in the trailer fall flat for me:
- "It's likely that the muscles that you have from dancing stopped the knife."
- "She's good." "We can use her."
- "I saw you with a bunch of people like those people back in Brooklyn!" "It was just dancing!"
Ugh.
As I've said before, dance movies either feature good actors who are bad dancers or good dancers who can't act. "Step Up" is the only recent movie I can think of that got the balance close to right. I suspect that this movie will be more like "You Got Served," i.e. poorly acted drama that one has to suffer through before we get to the goods: the actual dancing footage.
I don't need "Citizen Kane." I'm just hoping for lots of bad ass dancing that the cinematographer shoots without resorting to cheap music video tricks and cutaways. These skilled b-girls and b-boys deserve better.
UPDATE 1/8/09: Sadly my fears were justified.
I’ve found the trailer too ( http://rapid4me.com/?q=B-Girl ), but would like to find the movie. Has anyone got a link?
There is a great break dancing movie coming out called B-Girl, with New York and Texas screenings- the movie looks really sweet. The facebook page has some more info! http://www.facebook.com/bgirlmovie?v=app_2344061033
