My foodie colleagues Barry, Rafi, Amira and I just had some tasty sandwiches from the new Defonte's of Brooklyn Italian sandwich shop on Third Avenue and 21st Street. Overally we were quite impressed with the offerings and the setup.
The classic sandwiches like the Nicky and the Valentino seem more packed with extras like lettuce and tomato, while the hot sandwich offerings are much simpler with just meat and cheese for the most part. I had the corned beef, pictured above, and really enjoyed it. My colleagues liked their Nicky Special, Chicken Cutlet and Roast Beef sammiches as well. The staff were clearly pushing the Italian sesame seed rolls, but they also have regular white and wheat on offer.
All-in-all, a very nice addition to the neighborhood, which already has the equally tasty L'Amazou and Baoguette sandwich shops within a few blocks of each other.
