I got the news from Jade that she/he is organizing a multi-virtual world discussion on "Emerging Trends in Game Development" with Raph Koster and other notable metaverse thinkers today at 12pm PST. The chat will take place in both Metaplace (in the Interval space) and in Second Life (in Idea City, click here to teleport.). Here's the description:
event will be an informal group discussion loosely led by Raph Koster,
Adri Haik, and myself, Jade Lily. We will present some trend that was discussed at
GDC, discuss our experience with the trend, how we see it playing out,
how it impacts our work, etc, and we will take whatever opportunities
we can to engage the audience and encourage group participation in the
discussion.
Possible trends to discuss:
- Microcontent
- Social game development
- Free-to-play MMOs
- Engagement and retention
Sounds really interesting. Check this post by Raph Koster and this post by Hamlet Au for more info about the TWO new "chatbridges" between Metaplace and Second Life!
POSTSCRIPT: it was a really neat event with about 100 avatars across two worlds, exchanging a bewildering amount of ideas, questions, theories and musings! I was in both worlds during much of the event, which you can get a sense of from this pic. Great stuff.
