Today we started shooting machinima for the presentation for the "Virtual Mine" project, being pitched at the conclusion of the BAVC Producer's Institute on Friday. Yes, it was a lot of work for the team to create the assets, write the shooting script, and arrange the sets for the machinima shoot. But it was also a lot of fun.
Where else can you drive a pretend bulldozer and dress up your avatar like an Appalachian miner?
I get the benefit of piggybacking on original documentary being directed by Sally Rubin and Jennifer Gilomen, the amazing builds created by Buhbuhcuh Fairchild, and the skilled machinimatography of Draxtor Despres. My job consisted mostly of wrangling sound effects, dressing up avatar characters, and controlling the avatars during the shoot.
Tomorrow is the crunch day, when all of the slides and videos need to be completed before the presentation to a group of potential funders on Friday.
