I just got home from catching the legendary Rebirth Brass Band of New Orleans just tearing it up at B.B. Kings in Times Square tonight. The ensemble filled the packed club with their unique, funked up style. I was right up on the stage, so got blasted by the amplified sound of seven horn players and two drummers. I think my ears will be ringing for days, and it damn near blew out the mic on my little Flip camera.
Toward the end of the evening, Rebirth did a great medley of Michael Jackson tunes. Here's some video I took of that.
Such an amazing band, combining jazz, hip-hop, funk, and R&B effortlessly, and in a style all their own.
One of the best memories I have of New Orleans was pre-Katrina, going over to Maple Leaf on a Tuesday night to hear them in a bar which could have doubled as a warehouse. They’re awesome!
