Here's a really cute music video that has been flying around the Quaker online community, directed by Ben Schiller featuring Quaker musician Jon Watts. Who says Quakers don't dance? I want to go to THAT Meeting for Worship.
That said, I wish the content were a bit more accessible to non-Quakers. Rapping about our internal differences between Christ-centered and Light-centered Quakers is not a very useful entry point for someone who is new to Friends. And the shout-outs to various Liberal Friends institutions and locales is totally lost on outsiders.
But I'm quibbling. It's a really creative and fun video that definitely breaks some stereotypes about Quakers. And its got a good beat to dance to.
This Friend raps my mind.
As a non-Quaker, I want to tell you that this content was accessible and fun, and it raised my interest. The phrase, “I’m not a Christian—but I’m a Quaker!” sends me straight to Google to find out what he is talking about. Thanks for that.
Glad you liked it, and piqued your curiousity!
Trust yourself. You can also walk you can dance.
I love it- and I am clapping my hands- but silently of course!
I’m a Quaker, and can barely sit in Meeting for worship anymore without thinking about this video and what it would be like if my Meeting erupted in to a dance party. Makes me laugh in the silence.
Friend speaks my mind.
